Chive Seeds?

Ok, this will be really quick! Mom gave me a chive plant that I have been trying to keep alive over the winter. (It may or may not make it.) Today when I watered it, the soil was really really dry (oops). however, when all the water finally soaked in, a bunch of little seed pod looking things rose to the surface from under the soil. I don't know if they are going to start sprouting, if that was supposed to happen, if I need to cover them with dirt, if they are even the same plant..... I really am very confused. Let me know if you have any ideas!

  1. OK.... Update!

My husband apparently ate a bell pepper for a snack last night. He has a tendency to do funny things like, for instance, save the seeds from the pepper he just ate and put them in a nearby plant. When I told him that my chive plant spouted seeds, he laughed..... When I told him I already posted it to my blog, he laughed harder.

I didn't think plants worked that way! I thought it was too funny a story for me to delete. Enjoy a laugh!

  2. Not too sure about this. I know that you can buy chive seeds - it is sort of like what came first - the seed or the plant. I thought Cindy was crazy when she said Tom was pulling chives out from aoo over the place from the one plant that I gave her (it was a big plant). But then I had the same thing happen here last year. So - I say let the little "seeds" do thier thing and wait and see...You never know who'll have the last laugh on this one!
